The Benefits of a Bath Remodel
As discussed on our home page, bathroom remodeling significantly enhances the value of a house. If you’re remodeling a bathroom on the first floor, your home improvement will benefit the whole family as well as guests.
Your bathroom should be functional, comfortable, and attractive and we can help you design it so it meets all three criteria.
Handy Tips for Remodeling Your Bath
Before remodeling, you should have a clear sense of your needs and what you do and do not like about your existing bathroom. Ideally, you will know how much you are willing to spend on your project. Finally, it is very helpful to us if you have any pictures from magazines or images from a website of the types of bathroom remodeling features you like. Seeing these designs enables us to obtain a sense of your taste and preferences for your bathroom remodeling project. We can take it from there, helping to finalize the project.
Selection of Bathroom Fixtures
To determine whether we can fit everything inside the space available for your new bathroom, it’s helpful for you to tentatively make decision about bathroom fixtures, such as those listed below. Of course, many items on the list are optional.
- Tub – 5’ or 6’ (Jacuzzi?)
- Stand-alone shower
- Sink – single or double
- Faucets
- Lights
- Towel bar
- Linen closet
- Windows
- Skylights
A Detailed Architectural Plan
The most successful bathroom remodeling projects begin with well-designed bathroom floor plans. They can be as basic as space measurements or specifying every fixture. Whether you are designing a new bathroom or remodeling an existing one, developing a floor plan can help you:
- Specify exactly what you want.
- See whether all components work together, aesthetically and practically.
- Ensure that the cost estimate is based on as much information as possible.
- Avoid costly mistakes in purchases and construction.
It takes careful thought and a high level of expertise to remodel a bathroom creatively and correctly. Our bathroom remodeling solutions encompass a wide range of optional amenities, including steam showers, custom showers with body spas, lighting and floor solutions to the installation of a heated tile floor.
A Simple Plan
Simple bathrooms don’t need full set of architectural plans, just a basic building plan. The example at right is for a small bathroom and it’s well-designed. Note that the sink, toilet, and bathtub all have water supply/drains along one wall.
The homeowner would still need to decide on:
- Faucets
- Paint Ceiling & Walls
- Possible door (if it needs replacing)
- Type of sink (pedestal?)
- One light/fan switch
- One GFI outlet
- Bathtub or bath/shower stall
- Tile floor
- Skim coat of plaster on walls & ceiling
- Ceiling exhaust fan/light
Well thought-out small bathroom floor plans take into account how everything fits together, including how the space will be used, as well as the dimensions of the fixtures. (For example, there should be room to stand in front of the sink without stepping into the bathtub!).
